Ferrari’s new Gran Turismo, which draws inspiration from Formula One technology, is enhanced by the company’s more than 50 years of success. The Enzo, which shares a name with the 288GTO, F40, and F50, is a limited edition road car named after the company’s founder. These vehicles stand for Ferrari’s ongoing pursuit of creating the most opulent and cutting-edge road vehicle possible.

It is not a novel concept to brand road cars with technology from racing cars, especially Ferrari. Ferrari’s road and racing cars were essentially the same product until the late 1950s. The cars we race and the cars we drive every day have clearly changed since then due to safety laws, production costs, and practicality considerations. Closing this gap was the aim of the Enzo.

Luca de Montezemolo says, “I decided that this car, which represents the best our technology can do, should be dedicated to the founder of the company, who always thought racing should lay the foundation for our road car designs.” This is how he combines the success of his racing career with the essential role that races play in society.

The Enzo was created by a plethora of talent at Ferrari and was tested in the Maranello area by Dario Benuzzi and Michael Schumacher. Ferrari spent 20 million euros developing the project, which they internally referred to as the FX.

Out of the 350 Enzos that were initially produced, 400 were finished in red, yellow, or black, or a custom color if the customer and the company had a strong enough relationship. Ferrari earned $28.8 million USD (24.4 million euros) from the sale of the additional fifty vehicles, with each vehicle selling for $554,00 USD (487,700 EU). Ferrari has demonstrated with these numbers that they can not only sell vehicles valued at half a million dollars, but also turn a healthy profit on them.
