Ways to identify a tiger
The Siberian tiger, the Malayan tiger, the Sumatran tiger, the Bengal tiger, the Indochinese tiger, the Southern China tiger (possibly extinct in the wild), and the Siberian tiger are the six subspecies that still exist today. Tigers are the largest cat species on the planet.
They are terrific hunters because of their strong forelimbs, retractable claws, strong jaws, sharp teeth, and keen senses. They are also nimble, with flexible bodies made for sprinting, jumping, and climbing.
Tigers are excellent at camouflaging themselves because of their unique markings, which blend in with the colors and shadows of their environment. They have a reddish-orange to yellow-ochre coat with a white belly and black stripes.
Male tigers tend to be significantly larger than female tigers, though size differences exist between subspecies and geographical regions.
Where do tigers live?
Tigers can be found in small areas of Asia in temperate forests, tropical rainforests, grasslands, and elevations from the coast to the mountains. They usually avoid areas that are divided into smaller, distinct areas and/or are dominated by people because of their large space requirements.
Tiger behaviour
Tigers typically live and hunt by themselves. The quantity of prey determines how big their territory is. Certain tiger species have incredibly vast ranges—up to 2,000 kilometers—such as the Siberian tiger. While female and male tigers may have overlapping territories, males do not share territory with other males.
Tigers use scent to communicate – they spray urine and rub scent on trees and bushes to inform other cats of their whereabouts and to mark their territory.
After a 90–110 day pregnancy, females give birth to a litter of two or three cubs. Cubs play a lot and learn how to fight, stalk, and communicate through this time. It is possible for adults to play with cubs as well. Cubs start learning to hunt and kill at the age of six months, but they still need their mother for at least 15 months before they go off and establish their own territory.
